Forgotten American history: the battle of Athens

I don’t know if there would be any interest in this subject but I have decided to start posting my obscure US history stuff here and not just on facebook and this is a good one to start with. It is a piece that I suspect the political left and right both would want to intentionally overlook due to rather different reasons.

The “Battle of Athens” was an armed revolt in 1946 by returning veterans against the corrupt racist southern officials and their goons ruling over a small Tennessee town. After a series of skirmishes the rag tag army laid siege to the prison and held an honest election.
